BKLYN DESIGNS 2016 : BKLYN DESIGNS–the internationally renowned, juried exhibition of contemporary furniture, lighting, accessories, and art from Brooklyn–will take place May 6-8 at the Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint in conjunction with NYCxDESIGNNew York’s citywide celebration of design.

The show will feature emerging designers and established brands hailing from design and manufacturing hubs across Brooklyn, including Greenpoint, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Bushwick, Red Hook, Dumbo, and more. Show producers have also tapped industry leaders and thinkers to help develop a robust program of panel discussions, workshops and interactive installations to celebrate and explore design collaboration in all forms.

Several designers will launch their brands at BKLYN DESIGNS, including Cam Crockford Design, Catalor Design, earthly and POPA, while established design veterans such as Mark Jupiter – a fourth generation NYC furniture designer and builder – and multi-disciplinary design studio Think Fabricate will showcase new, beautifully detailed furnishings. Additional exhibition highlights include: handmade, ethically sourced home accessories from Bolé Road Textiles; modern heirloom furniture from Evan Z. Crane; artistic fabrics from De Islas; colorful Memphis-inspired furniture and accessories from Pezzi; sculptural planters from Come Out to the Coast; lighting fixtures customized by Brooklyn artists from Legion Lighting and Smash Industries; Edison-style LED lightbulbs and new chandeliers from Urban Chandy; an exhibit of a modular, post-disaster housing prototype designed by Garrison Architects; a Pratt exhibition of student and alumni work; and ethical and sustainable fashion, accessories and home goods from BF+DA Venture Fellows.

Scissura. “From hi-tech to handcrafted, we are excited to showcase the latest products and techniques developed in Brooklyn during the borough's premier design show and one of the anchor fairs of NYCxDESIGN."

Another exciting highlight of BKLYN DESIGNS will be the return of BKLYN BUYS – a curated marketplace where attendees can shop for beautifully crafted accessories and design objects made or designed in Brooklyn. The pavilion will celebrate the wealth of creativity and craftsmanship in the borough, featuring ceramics, jewelry and other accessories from local talent such as Michal Lando Design, WrenLab Ceramics and LESH, as well as the work of numerous jewelry students and alumni from Pratt. Strengthening this retail hub, the American Design Club Pop-Up Shop will offer products for sale by well-known Brooklyn designers and NYCxDESIGN Destinations, Cornhole – a usable gallery of one-of-a-kind cornhole boards designed by surprise collaborators.

Demonstrating the collaborative spirit of design, the show will also feature numerous lounges and site-specific installations, including: a 500-square-foot Micro Loft concept space designed and furnished by AphroChic featuring cutting-edge kitchen appliances from AJ Madison, transformable furniture from Resource Furniture, and smart home technology from Con Edison; the Maker’s Lab, where local designers and organizations will host workshops and sessions ranging from textiles and 3D printing to business development and product certifications; the Azimyth VR Lounge sponsored by the Architecture & Design Film Festival, featuring an immersive virtual reality experience from Azimyth Creation Studio; caribBEING House – a unique, mobile, and multi-purpose art/cultural space housed in a shipping container; drINK –a playful lounge and bar area presented by danielmoyerdesign + Tattly that invites visitors to ink themselves or the furniture; a pop-up textile studio where Textile Arts Center will host live demos and workshops led by their Artists in Residence ranging from screen printing to weaving; and the BKLYN DESIGNS VIP Lounge furnished by Naula and Hadar Metal Design.
